The  Schiller Institute has a legal address in a PO box in Washington DC. The group does not function as a separate entity with separate offices. Whatever offices and phones of a LaRouche entity exist will also double as an office and manpower for the Schiller Institute, the LaRouche Presidential Campaigns, EIR or any other publication. The people from the LaRouche groups will freely become Schiller Institute people when it is convenient to do so. Since the LaRouche name had a lot of baggage with it, it is some times easier to call some one as the Schiller Institute and not place LHL upfront.  In some cases, the group will find a few supporters in distant countries and establish them as the Schiller Institute. It usually is just a local resident and a supporter who can send out press releases and arrange some meetings for LHL or Helga.

But, as Jeremiah found out, an anti war conference that was set up by the Schiller Institute is really a LaRouche group in a different sweater that day. When I was in the group we used the Schiller Institute name if we needed to call artists, musicians, schools or some group that was not considered "political". Of course, after we had our hooks in to them, it always became a life and death issue of supporting LaRouche for president or some thing else he was associated with.

We did the same thing via a science group called the Fusion Energy Foundation, which then became 21st century magazine. It is a way to raise money selling a publication, calling a new layer of people for support and money, and  a way to attempt to influence some one else. Since everything is top down run by LHL and his wife Helga, there is no way any entity is independent. In fact, when I was in the group in the 80's, LHL wrote many memos which said that unless the activity revolves around sending him to the White House, it will now be allowed.

It is possible for one fundraiser to call a science ,art and political list for money and use what ever LHL group as a vehicle to get in the front door.

So last March in West Germany, the conference hall may have been rented by the Schiller Institute. But, the whole activity is for LaRouche. There may have been a Schiller banner in the hall, but it was LaRouche security people who patrolled the halls, checked people and determined where attendees like Jeremiah would sleep and who they would be with.  Every person  that Jeremiah met, talked to, ate with and stayed with was a LaRouche group member.

So, if you can find a separate Schiller Institute that does not involve LaRouche people, than you know a lot more than I do after being in for several years and following them today via their web sites.
