ABSTRACT: The text of the appeal addressed by a group of parliamentarians and personalities

in the cultural field to the heads of States and government convened in Rio de Janeiro for the

United Nations conference on environment and development (5-7 June 1992). The appeal asks

to complete, endow with precise means of application and control and solemnly sign the three

conventions on climate, biodiversity and forests, which represent the core of the Rio summit:

“no deceptions should be encouraged: failing these commitments, it will be impossible to seriously
undertake anything in the future, and this important occasion will be lost, perhaps for ever”.

The appeal was submitted to the “Parliamentary Earth Summit”, promoted by the Brazilian

Parliament in Rio de Janeiro and to the world interparliamentary meeting.
